Have you ever been sitting around the house in your pajamas, watching TV, enjoying a lazy afternoon when all of a sudden…DING DONG…the doorbell rings and there are some friends that were just “in the area” so they thought they’d stop in for a visit? If it was our house, I’d probably be hiding because I don’t usually answer the door if I’m not expecting someone. For those of you who don’t hide, it’s nice to have some quick recipes on hand for when surprise guests come to visit.
I’m usually pretty prepared for my meals during the week so I don’t have to make additional trips to the grocery store. What I’m usually not prepared for are last minute ladies nights or surprise in-laws coming to visit. There are a few ways you can prepare yourself for unexpected guests.
If you have some of these items in your kitchen, you’ll be all set to entertain with short notice:
- canned peaches and basic baking ingredients for this Peach Cobbler
- microwavable popcorn, cheddar seasoning and a dry ranch dressing mix for this Cheddar Ranch Popcorn
- frozen appetizers with salad dressing as dipping sauce
- bananas and basic baking ingredients for these Banana Muffins
- a cake mix, a box of instant pudding and some fresh fruit for easy mini trifles
- potatoes and cooking spray for these Easy Homemade Fries
- ice cream, chocolate syrup and candies for a quick ice cream sundae
- a few spices, fresh tomatoes and Parmesan cheese for this easy Homemade Bruschetta (serve with bread or crackers)
- frozen spinach, a jar of artichokes, shredded cheese, cream cheese…okay, this isn’t an easy recipe but it’s worth mentioning here because guests will love it – Hot Artichoke & Spinach Dip
