I’ve been working on this County Fair Party for a while now and not-so-patiently waiting for the snow to melt. Thankfully we’re back into summer weather so I was able to head outside and start working on it. With so many delicious carnivals foods, midway games and activity ideas, this party theme is such a fun one to put together. I hope you like pictures because we have a lot to share here with you!
County Fair Party Ideas:
The fabulous Leila of A Little Pixel created all of the printables for this party. I wanted a softer light pink & grey look instead of the typical red & white used for carnival-style parties. I love the way they all turned out! For a listing of all of the fabulous vendors involved in the party, please visit the list at the end of the post.
My idea for the theme was a shabby-chic look meets the local town county fair filled with livestock, homemade goodies and some cute country accents.
For the food table, I used a lace tablecloth along with a rose-toned tassel garland. I hadn’t worked with a tassel garland before but I loved how easy it was to put together.
When it comes to food for a county fair party, there are so many delicious ideas! You may remember the Carnival Party Food post we did a few months ago…I’m still drooling over some of those recipes. I had so many delicious ideas for county fair food that I almost ran out of table space!
In the little wooden berry baskets, I included some gummy berries along with little snack bags that guests could fill with treats.
You can’t have a fair without candy apples, right?! I used a wooden apple basket to display some delicious candy apples covered with caramel, chocolate and candy.
I wanted a cute petting zoo area for the party but there was no way I was going to rent a goat for the event. {wink} I instead settled on some adorable petting zoo animal cookies and I created a little “petting zoo area” with a craft fence from Michaels and a box lid covered in green tissue paper.
I love the mini clothespins used to hang all the food buffet signs.
Although I’ve never actually been to a county fair, I’ve seen adorable pictures of prize winning piggies that I knew had to be in our party. I absolutely love the way that these piggy cake pops turned out. For the cake pop stand, I used a metal pail with a foam brick inside of it and topped it with pink tissue paper.
Not only were the piggies adorable but they tasted delicious too! It was my birthday on the day I put this party together so I may have used that as an excuse to eat more than my fair share of them.
I didn’t stop there with adorable animals at the party! We also had some sweet cupcakes with animals, blue ribbons and cotton candy ice cream cones. The amount of detail in these cupcakes is amazing!
Every county fair needs some cotton candy! I used the themed bottle wraps to cover paper cupcake wrappers as cups for cotton candy.
The cupcakes and cotton candy were displayed in a wooden basket that I picked up at Home Sense.
It was quite windy on the day of the party so I had some issues with popcorn flying away on me. I couldn’t help but laugh when I started getting surrounded by birds looking for flying popcorn.
One of my favorite treats at the fair are mini donuts so I knew I needed a place for them on the buffet table.
I love the treat boxes that I used for the mini donuts so I used a larger size for some fries.
I set up both sets of boxes in a large 2-layered basket.
Corn dogs wouldn’t be my first pick for a snack at a county fair but a themed party wouldn’t be complete without them! You could also serve them with little paper cups filled with mustard.
Now we’re onto the games & activities! For a county fair party, I love the idea of creating your own ring toss with old glass bottles and plastic rings.
A delicious activity would be a mini pie eating contest where guests have to eat a mini pie without using their hands. Have extra napkins ready for this one!
If you have a friend who can draw and paint, hire them for a fun face painting activity for the kids.
For an evening activity for all ages, a western dance under a tent or gazebo with twinkling lights would be perfect!
Don’t forget your cowboy boots in the dance saloon!
Here are some more fun ideas for Carnival Games At Home.
For party favors, I love these bags filled with candies or themed cookies. You could even use special iron-on paper to iron the personalized tags right onto the bags.
