Beauty & Brains Back To School:

For this party, I went with a red, black and glitter look. The frames at the front of the table were plain wooden frames from Michaels that I painted with black glitter paint.

Most of the decorations are items I already have at home (cake stands, tablecloth, red glitter fabric for backdrop, glitter red candles, school supplies, etc.).

I went to the library to borrow some books to use as stands on the table.

The lips and glasses clothespins were from Michaels and I used them on the food buffet cards.

Thinking of food for this party was so fun! There are so many clever ideas for this theme.

We used the mathematical symbol for pi for a delicious Cookies & Cream Pie.

Cookies were labeled as Smart Cookies.

Printable bottle wraps were used on soda bottles. If you could find science beakers, those would be great for this party as well.

Printable circles on toothpicks were used on the cupcakes.

If being a smart & creative thinker means being a nerd, then I’m proud to be called a nerd!

Another fun idea would be gummy worms labeled as “Bookworms” and cookies in shapes of rulers, calculators, etc. I had an adorable idea for making calculator cookies with edible color markers and M&M’s for the calculator buttons but I am not so handy when it comes to making cute desserts in the kitchen. If you try them out, I’d love to see pictures!

At Michaels, I found these adorable mini lockers that would be perfect for Back To School favors. I filled the locker with a compact beauty mirror, a fancy pen and some nail polishes. I added the fun “Brains Are Beautiful” tag with a lock on the outside. Glitter gift bags would work great as well.

For a little craft project that your kids can help with – head over to Forever Your Prints to download my free Printable Book Box. You can decorate the cover of the box anyway you’d like – I left it blank so the template could be used for several different projects. A fun idea would be to fill the box with gummy “bookworms” as part of the party favor.

  1. Hi – first I just wanted to say that I’m in England and have no kids, but just stumbled across this on Twitter this morning, and wanted to tell you how terrific I think it is. Can’t believe how much thought has gone into it. My 13 year old niece would love it – well done!

  2. There’s no way that I have the energy for a back to school party, but the food labels are just SO clever! At my school the staff from each grade level hosts one meal/snack/appreciation type thing, so this would probably be really good for that!
