This post was written by our contributor Carolyn…Gru, alongside his silly minions, has become a new man since we saw him last. He has traded in stealing the moon for princess birthday parties and making jelly! Despicable Me 2 has two main story lines, the first being Gru’s daughters and one nosey neighbor looking for a love interest for Gru. This part of the story is very heart heartwarming and quite hilarious at times. Gru’s blind date was one of the funniest moments for my family, it reminded me of the awkward small talk and nervousness I once felt while dating. The second story line has the AVL, Anti Villain League, searching for the culprit who stole a serum that has the power to turn sweet animals and people into wild indestructible eating machines. The AVL asks Gru, who has expertise on how the brain of a master villain works, to go undercover in a mall where they have found traces of the serum. Gru is joined by a lanky, silly, caring partner and hilarity ensues. Despicable Me 2 shows us the importance of following your intuition and supporting your loved ones. That, with the help of your minions, will lead you to happiness! Here I’ll share some ideas for Despicable Me 2 activities that the whole family can enjoy!
Despicable Me 2 Activities:
The soundtrack for Despicable Me 2 had the children bopping, swaying and doing the salsa dance throughout the entire movie. I knew I had to get the music. The minions are often found in disguise for their work or dressing up just for a good time! An afternoon dance party was in order and it wouldn’t be complete without costumes. A few items we collected around the house were gloves and goggles like the minions’, scarves like Lucy and Gru wear, various wigs and jewelry, and whatever else we could find. My son and I are dancing around the house often and sharing the fun with his little buddies was delightful.
Another activity we did after viewing Despicable Me 2 was play “sling the goo in the minion’s mouth.” I drew a minion on poster board using the DVD/Blu-ray case as a guide and painted it using acrylic crafter’s paint. I cut out the mouth, glued the minion to cardboard for stability and hung it on my island so there was room behind the minion for our “goo” to land. I had ball shooters from my son’s birthday in the summer and I knew these would be the perfect goo slingers! The children took turns shooting the goo and eventually were putting whatever they could find through the minions mouth like feeding him crumpled newspaper balls and pom poms, play food and farm animals.

Despicable Me 2 will be released on DVD & Blu-ray on December 10th. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of minions under Christmas trees this year!
