Many people wonder “should I have a baby shower for a second child?” and I think “Absolutely!”. Every child is a gift worth celebrating! No matter if it’s a mother’s second, third…or more…I think it’s a wonderful idea to gather the mommy-of-2-to-be with her best girlfriends to celebrate the exciting arrival.
Planning a Baby Shower for a Second Child:
Many mommy’s will have most things they need (and more) from their previous children. If you are hosting a baby shower for a second child, ask the mommy what her thoughts are on the shower. Does she want an opportunity to gather with her best girlfriends & family to chat over snacks while playing a few games? What does she feel she needs in preparation for this new bundle of joy? Here are two options for planning a baby shower for a second child.
- Casserole Party:
Invite the mommy’s friends and family to gather for snacks, visiting and games. In the invitation, note something like “{Mommy’s Name} feels as though she has all the clothes, toys and necessities for the baby on the way (thanks to the proud soon-to-be-brother/sister). In lieu of gifts, please bring along your best game-playing skills, advice for a soon-to-be mother of 2, and your appetite (we’ll be serving a lot of great snacks)!
If you feel as though you’d like to bring something for {Mommy’s Name} & family, a practical idea may be food to stock her freezer. We all know how precious time is when first bringing the new baby home and some previously made meals and goodies will go a long way both in saving time and keeping {Mommy’s Name} energized. Feel free to bring along your favorite casserole, treats, or any other food that will last well in the freezer.
- Pamper Party:
Like the previous idea, invite the mommy’s friends and family to gather for snacks, visiting and games at a local spa. In the invitation, note something like “{Mommy’s Name} feels as though she has all the clothes, toys and necessities for the baby on the way (thanks to the proud soon-to-be-brother/sister). In lieu of gifts, please bring along your fingers and toes to join {Mommy’s Name} for an afternoon of spa pampering.
While {Mommy’s Name} is getting pampered, feel free to bring in some Pampers for the new baby. We all know how often a new baby goes through diapers! To add a bit of fun to this diaper drive, a raffle ticket will be handed out for each bundle of 10 diapers. The prize is….well, you’ll have to wait and see!
Noting gift suggestions on an invite isn’t something that all moms or hostesses are comfortable with. Ask the mommy what she prefers. You may just want to pass along the suggestions by word of mouth when someone asks about it.
