It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a Superhero Party! A superhero birthday is such a fun theme to plan. With so many creative comics and superheros, the possibilities are endless! To learn more about many of the different superheros, here is a great overview on Wikipedia. Here I’ll share ideas for invitations, decorations, activities, food, and treat bags. Superhero Party – Invitations:
A fun idea for a superhero party invitation is to use one with a comic book theme. Some fun wording for superhero invitations are:
- Bam! Wham! Pop! Crack!
- It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Super {Child’s Name}’s birthday party!
- Calling all Superheros!
- Grab your cape! You’re needed for a superhero mission!
Superhero Party – Decorations:
A really fun idea that’s super easy to create is a backdrop of buildings. All you’ll need are empty boxes with black wrapping paper or black poster board (folded into rectangles). Using a pencil and ruler you can measure windows on yellow paper and glue these onto the “buildings” as windows. You could cut holes for windows instead and place a flashlight inside the box for additional light coming out of the building.
A creative idea for a banner is to use comic book bubbles like the ones featured below – It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Super Josh!”.
In comic books there are always a lot of sounds in explosive bubbles like Bam! Wham! Pop! These make great centerpieces on the tables and fun decor on the walls of the party.
Accent colors for the party can include red, yellow, blue and black. At your local dollar store, you’ll be able to find some fun accents for your superhero party like tins (perfect for holding utensils), small figurines and more.
Superhero capes draped on the back of guests chairs and superhero masks at place settings are decor pieces that the little guests are sure to love. This can then be part of their treat bag to take home.
Superhero Party – Activities:
Superheros can have a variety of different powers such as strength, speed, intelligence, invisibility…and the list goes on! Your little party guests can participate in fun challenges in a Superhero Training Camp!
Super Strength: Guests can be given a challenge of carrying as many water balloons as they can safely handle across a finish line.
Super Intelligence: Guests can work in teams to solve special clues as part of a fun scavenger hunt.
Super Speed: Guests can race through an obstacle course filled with hoops to jump through, strings of streamers to hop over and under, safety cones to run around and box tunnels to crawl through.
Super Invisibility: Testing your best invisibility skills could be as simple as a game of hide and seek. You’d be surprised what kids can get into so be sure guests know what areas are off-limits due to safety reasons.
Flying Power: Guests could race to build paper airplanes and the one that travels the furthest could win a prize.

You’ll want to choose party food that will be a hit with the guests while sticking to your superhero party theme. Some fun ideas for kids include:
