Family Pizza Party Ideas

This #CollectiveBias pizza party menu post is courtesy of our contributor Michelle...My youngest son Liam is 4 and he loves to help me in the kitchen. No matter what I am making in the kitchen for our family, he is the first one at my side to lend a helping hand. He throws on his chef hat and apron and is ready to pitch in. He particularly likes to help me bake, he loves stirring cake or cookie batter with his big wooden spoon. The best part of it all is he loves to help wash the dishes!

With summer here, we spend less time inside the kitchen and more time outside by the pool and firing up the barbeque, except for Friday Pizza Night. We usually bake a few oven ready pizzas and have an indoor “picnic” while we watch a family-friendly movie.

My boys are growing like weeds, so I always buy at least 3 oven ready pizzas for our Friday night tradition, my oldest sons can almost eat a whole pizza by themselves! This past Friday we switched things up a little when I found the new DIGIORNO® Design A Pizza™ Kit at WalMart along with our regular favorites, DIGIORNO® Rising Crust and pizzeria! from DIGIORNO®.

For obvious reasons, I don’t let Liam near the oven when we bake pizza so there isn’t much he can help with on pizza night. When I showed him how he was going to help me make the pizza, he was thrilled! I was pleasantly surprised to see the pizza ingredients were packaged in separately in compartments which made it easy to place them in glass bowls for Liam’s little hands.

Liam created the cutest happy face pizza using the pepperoni for the eyes, nose and mouth and spinach for eyebrows. He used the diced onions and tomatoes for a mustache. After all, you can’t have a happy face pizza without a mustache!

We put his masterpiece in the oven and he patiently watched it bake through the oven glass. Once his work of art was baked just right, I plated a piece for him to try. I honestly have never seen him enjoy a piece of pizza like that before.   I think he enjoyed it more because he had a hand in it and for some reason happy face pizza just tastes better!

In addition to the Design a Pizza, we prepared our favorite DIGIORNO® Rising Crust (Supreme) and pizzeria! from DIGIORNO® (Tuscan Style Chicken) to feed my hungry brood on movie night. These are some other great options to look for when planning your pizza party menu.
