eGifting – A Unique Holiday Gift Idea

As the holiday season approaches, friends & family are asking me for gift ideas for my son. He has so many toys already – let’s be honest, it’s exhausting cleaning those up every night – but I know people want to get him something he’ll use. Sure, clothes are great but he already has a few favourites that he likes to wear every day. So what can you give a child that’s useful, thoughtful & exciting? An RESP contribution! Introducing: The New Heritage eGifting Program!

Heritage eGifting

I know what you’re thinking; your child doesn’t even know what a RESP is so how could he be excited about it? It’s never too early to teach kids about savings & how those savings are going to help him be anything he wants to be!

Heritage eGifting Program – How It Works:

You’ve all heard of crowdfunding, right? It’s a new concept where people can raise money for a variety of causes. You’ve probably seen several circulating online where people can join together & donate money to a special cause. Opening up a funding program for your child’s RESP allows loved ones to donate to your child’s education. Everyone is open to donate as little or as much as they want.

BONUS – donating money to a RESP means less time in the malls plus it eliminates the stress of having to find that perfect gift. Loved ones can donate to your child’s RESP right from the comfort of their own home!

Heritage has partnered with FundRazr, the nation’s #1 crowdfunding platform to bring you the Heritage eGifting program. Since 2010, FundRazr has helped raise over $74 million from over 45,000 campaigns around the world.

Why not just give cash? Great question! Were you ever given cash in an envelope as a gift as a child? What did you do with it? I usually spent mine on more toys or candy! Donating to a child’s RESP means you know you’re donating money to something special…not a binge shopping trip to the candy store. {wink}

Find out how you can get started with the Heritage eGifting Program today!

  3. This is awesome!! We gift money to our nephews for their birthdays every year with the intent that the funds go into their RESPs. As much as we trust our In-Laws to put the money where we’ve asked, there’s no way knowing for sure if that’s whats happening (or if they buy food with the money instead, which is still fine, but not what we planned.) I’m going to gently-nudge them into opening one of those FundRazr crowdfunding pages so that we can pay directly through there instead, woot! Thanks for the heads up! <3

  4. This is such a fabulous idea! Kids get enough “stuff” over the holidays et al. This is an awesome way for family and friends to help give one of the most important gifts every child needs in their life. Education.
I wish this was around when my older kids were little. I’m going to get this started now for my 4 year old!

  5. My kids have WAY too many toys and they don’t need anymore. What they do need is the chance at a better future and this new eGifting program from Heritage Education Funds is one way for them to get that. Can’t wait to tell my parents about it.

  6. Such a simple idea, that is so amazing! With family all across Canada, it sure does make giving some good gift suggestions a lot easier, and benefits the kids too. Sounds like such a great plan!

  8. You have NO IDEA how much I love this. I have three kids: one in university already and the other two will follow really soon. I love the idea that our family can contribute to their education fund. Its not cheap and I don’t want them to go into debt so this is a great (and thoughtful) gift idea!

    Love, love, love!

  9. This is such a great idea and with children getting so many toys that go to the side so quickly it would make for a great gift from friends and extended family.

  10. I love this idea SO MUCH. WE have a lot of distant relatives that are always at a loss as to what to give my kids. The end result is usually a stack of gift cards, and well, that money could so better be put to use towards their RESPs.

  11. I love this. We try to teach our girls to save some of their birthday and Christmas money. Having our parents, the gifters, send s portion of the gift straight to RESP is perfect!

  12. I absolutely LOVE this idea! We give monetary gifts each year for our nieces and nephews. The intent is that it go towards their education, but whether it’s used for that, we never really know. At least this way, we can ensure that the money is going where we’d like it to go. Education is paramount. Heritage e-gifting is such a fabulous idea!

  13. This is a great programme, and a wonderful alternative to the kids receiving a heap of toys this holiday season. Education is expensive, but it doesn’t have to be when spread out over multiple years.
