Honeydukes Harry Potter Inspired Candy Stand

There is something so fun about putting together a display of brightly colored candy and chocolate treats for your guests to enjoy. With so many varieties of candy out there, it is easy to pick a wide selection and tailor it to fit any party theme with a bit of creative labelling.

Harry Potter Candy Buffet:

One of my favorite candy buffets I have put together is a Honeydukes inspired candy stand for a Harry Potter themed wedding shower. When my future sister in-law told me she want a co-ed Harry Potter themed wedding shower I found the whole idea quite daunting. I hadn’t even read the books to know where to begin, but luckily I had Pinterest to the rescue with all kinds of great ideas and inspiration. Browsing through Pinterest, it was clear right away that candy played a big part in the books and I knew a candy stand would be a fun and welcome addition to the celebration.

For my display, I decided to use a simple white metal shelf that I knew would look great lined with various shapes and sizes of glass jars filled with candy. I taped a pretty aqua striped chevron wrapping paper to the back and carried it over the top of the shelf as part of a valence I built from foamcore and hot glue. To finish off the look, I printed off a Honeydukes logo I found online and backed it with foamcore to create the top header. I also sourced a ceramic frog and owl, plush mice, black cauldrons and cardboard spellbooks to help decorate my version of Honeydukes.

The candy I chose for my Honeydukes display was inspired by those described in the Harry Potter books. First and foremost, I knew I needed some chocolate frogs and some Bertie Bott’s Beans. The jelly beans were easy enough to conjure up by buying a bag of Jelly Belly’s, but I had to order a frog shaped mold and pour my own chocolate to create the chocolate frogs. They were actually easier to make than expected and well worth the effort to fit the theme.

My lovely sister was tasked with creating the chocolate snitches. She did a wonderful job adding translucent paper wings to Ferrero Rocher chocolates and transforming them to look like the balls from the popular Harry Potter sport Quidditch.

I found most of the other candy at our local Bulk Foods store (Bulk Barn) and it all got labelled with a Harry Potter spin. Gummy Frogs became “Swamp Frogs”, gummy mice were “Ice Mice”, chocolate covered nuts were “Cockroach Clusters” and my rock candy suckers became “Rock Candy Wands”. We also had Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum, Choco Balls, Lemon Drops, Acid Worms, gummy Sugared Butterfly Wings, and giant gummy Slytherin Snakes. Half the fun for me was browsing all the bins of candy at the store and trying to match it to the names of candy from the books.

Guests were all encouraged to take one of the Honeydukes labelled pink and white chevron paper bags and fill it with a selection of their favorite candy to enjoy. It was a great ice breaker as everyone vied for a spot at the shelf to make sure they got their favorites!
