This Grapevine Girls Getaway post is courtesy of our contributor Cheryl of Kids On A Plane…My Lone Star State posts have focused a lot on family friendly activities and this week I wanted to change things up a bit and share a few fun activities for a girlfriends getaway in Grapevine, Texas.
With a population of just under 50,000, Grapevine may not be the first city that pops into mind when you think of Texas but it is home to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, a historic downtown area, a few wine tasting rooms and several large resort hotel complexes.
From wine tastings, to spa days and amazing meals and shopping – Grapevine is a great place to visit if you’re looking for big city excitement (it’s only 30 minutes driving from Dallas and Fort Worth) with a relaxed small town feel.
Looking for a few suggestions on how to spend a weekend in Grapevine, Texas with your gal pals?
Here are some suggestions:
Explore Historic Downtown Grapevine
The historic area (think Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls) is chock full of gift shops, boutiques and fabulous eateries – I loved Main Street Bistro and Bakery and Dino’s Steak & Claw House.
You can easily spend an afternoon exploring, eating and shopping here. This is the epitome of a fun girlfriend getaway in Grapevine, Texas. A little shopping, a glass or two of wine and even a potential makeover.
Wine Tasting at Messina Hof
If your girlfriends love a great glass of wine, try wine tasting at Messina Hof (located in Historic Downtown). Not only is it hosted in a beautiful hotel, it is very affordable. At only $10 for 5 tastings, it is a great low cost way to spend an afternoon or evening with your girlfriends.
Giddens Gallery Of Fine Art
Stroll around and check out vintage works, contemporary pieces and items you could even afford to take home with you. Incredible world renowned artists, as well as great local art is featured in this local to Grapevine gallery. The Giddens Gallery Of Fine Art is the perfect destination for fine art fans.
Grapevine Vintage Railroad
Take a ride on this great vintage railroad. Think it isn’t something your girlfriends will enjoy? You’d be surprised at how amazing it is to see the view, while riding in what used to be the best mode of transportation around. Your group can get to the Fort Worth Stockyards from here and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad hosts several wine trains each year.
Indulge Your Sweet Tooth at Dr. Sue’s Chocolate
Owned and run by a practicing physician, Dr. Sue shares the health benefits of dark chocolate. Visit her store to sample her unique creations or sign up for a two hour class and learn how to make chocolate ganache, bark and truffles.
Grapevine Botanical Gardens
In the spring and summer, visit the Grapevine Botanical Gardens for an hour or two – especially if any of your friends are photographers. With beautiful trees and flowers, a koi pond, walking trails and bridges this is a relatively unknown gem in Grapevine.
Shop at Grapevine Mills
If shopping is on the agenda, check out Grapevine Mills – a shopping and entertainment complex with over 180 outlet stores, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE Aquarium and AMC Theatres. Located only two miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, this could be your first or your last stop during your Grapevine getaway – just leave some room in your suitcase for your purchases!
Get Pampered at Relâche Spa
The Relâche Spa located in the Gaylord Texan Resort is a great place to get some R&R during your weekend getaway. This 25,000 square foot spa offers all of the classic experiences (massage, manicure and pedicure, facial treatments) for an afternoon of pampering.
Make Your Own Souvenir at Painting with a Twist Grapevine
Interested in making your own souvenir? Then check out Painting with a Twist – just a few steps away from Main Street in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
Bring your own drinks (wine!) and snacks and learn how to create your own masterpiece in 3 hours. This is definitely a fun and interactive activity that a group of girlfriends will enjoy – and no artistic skills required – the instructor gives easy to follow step-by-step instructions.
Getting around Grapevine is easy to do even if you’re not planning to rent a vehicle during your weekend getaway. The Grapevine Visitor Shuttle offers a $5 all-day pass which takes visitors to restaurants, shopping, attractions, hotels and the DFW Airport.
There are so many great reasons to plan a Texas vacation!
