With Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to take an opportunity to tell you about my dad. I don’t talk a lot about my family on the blog because we’re all pretty private people; however, I’m about to spill some news here that I haven’t shared with all of you yet.
My marriage ended last year. I hadn’t shared the news with all of you yet simply because I was trying to figure out my new “normal”. My son lives with me full-time and we’re both doing well. One of my biggest fears was how my son (5 years old) would handle the changes and how he’d react to not having his father around as often. For as much as a 5 year old can understand what this all means, I think he’s handling it pretty well.
My dad has always been very involved in my son’s life and I’m very thankful for that. Now that my son doesn’t have regular contact with his father, it means even more to me to see my dad spending quality time with him. Both of my parents are very involved in my son’s life and I know that has made the changes easier on him. I worry a little less knowing that my dad is a strong male role model for my son when my son’s own father isn’t around. My dad is a hard worker, he’s kind, he helps other people whenever he can and he has a good sense of humour. All great qualities that my son can learn from him just as I have over the years.
What makes your dad special & unique? Mark’s asked Canadians to share stories about what makes their dads so special and they put some of the answers into this sweet video. Warning – you may shed some tears so be prepared!
Father’s Day Gift Ideas For All Types Of Dads
This Father’s Day, my son and I wanted to take my dad shopping and buy him a special gift to thank him for all he does for us. My dad isn’t an easy person to shop for – I usually end up buying him lottery tickets and candy – so this year we wanted to include him in our shopping experience so he could pick out something that he really wanted. Do you struggle to find something perfect for the special dad in your life? You’re going to love how easy Mark’s has made the shopping experience this year!
My dad works a lot, enjoys spending time outdoors, and has a very laid-back & casual style. My mom suggested that my dad get a nice jacket (free of grease from work!) to wear when they go out for dinner but we dropped my mom off to get a haircut before our shopping trip so Dad was on his own to pick out his gift. He picked himself out some socks, a heavy work jacket for winter and a new pair of jeans. I think we have a new tradition of letting Dad pick out his own gift because now I know he has gifts that he’ll actually use.
