2) What are some of your favorite ways to decorate otherwise standard party supplies?

Paper straws are a big hit with both kids and adults. Most have never seen them or used them. We love to add straw flags to our designs for parties so the kids know which drink is theirs. It’s just another way to carry the party theme throughout.

We also love to take store bought items and “dress them up” for the dessert table, like the brownie hearts we used for our So Sweet Valentine’s Day Collection Suite.

3) What are three party supplies that you’d recommend for every party mama?

  • White trays or plates
  • Basic color tablecloth
  • Apothecary jars

It is really in the details and they don’t need to be expensive. Cupcakes are cute, but they look even cuter when placed in a decorative paper cup or wrapped in a cupcake wrapper. Water bottles are great, but dress them up with a water bottle label to match the party them. Add cute straw flags to embellish straws in the drinks. Look around your house to see what you have. I always “shop” my house first before an event to see what I already have on hand before making any purchases. You can use a simple glass vase to fill with candy and add a ribbon or decorative paper to tie it into the party. Cotton candy is inexpensive and can be worked into your party theme by simply repackaging it. Place it into individual serving clear bags, add a sticker to it and you are done. It serves as a party element as well as a party favor.

4) Do you have a favorite party that you’ve styled? Why does it stand out as your favorite?

One of our favorite parties for boys is the Vintage Baseball Party we designed and styled for my son’s 4th birthday last year. From the backdrop to the favor boxes and everything in between, the party came together so easily and was so much fun! Baseball is one of our favorite past times during the summer.

One of our favorite parties for girls is the Baking Party we designed and styled for my daughter’s 6th birthday.

We made the backdrop for an inexpensive but an eye catching piece to the party. We ruffled crepe paper and strung it along the back of the table. My daughter and I love to bake together so this party theme was a very natural one for her.

5) Can you name one item that most of us probably have at home that can be turned into a great piece of decor on a party table?

Clear glass vases or jars, in varying heights and widths. Add candy or any other elements to add color and height to your dessert table.
