This Watermelon Party Ideas post is courtesy of our contributor Chantelle...There’s nothing quite like a big slice of cool watermelon on a hot day. It is a summertime staple that is tasty, refreshing and can easily serve up a crowd. The bright red and green also lends itself well to a fun party table as you will see in my post today.
Fun DIY Watermelon Party Ideas:
Decorations can be kept very inexpensive by utilizing dollar store paper plates and plastic tablecloths. Sometimes you really don’t need to spend much to execute a theme.
For the garland, I simply combined green dinner sized paper plates with red dessert sized plates and cut them in half to make semi-circle slices of watermelon.
The banner was tied together using simple green ribbon and was the perfect backdrop hung behind all my watermelon inspired treats.
On the table, I layered green, white and red plastic tablecloths to replicate the colors in a watermelon. The effect was simple, but very effective.
I also decided to add a watermelon inspired touch to the disposable cups. By wrapping green electrical tape along the bottom of the red cups and drawing on small seeds with a black Sharpie marker, I had the perfect vessels in which to serve my watermelon lemonade.
For the watermelon lemonade, I simply combined new Tropicana Watermelon juice with half a bottle of Watermelon Lemon pop and garnished with fresh lemon slices. This would be such a tasty way to quench everyone’s thirst on a hot day!
I presented the actual slices of fresh watermelon on Popsicle sticks just because it looks so gosh darn cute. It was something a little different and unexpected which my kids seemed to really enjoy.
I also made up a batch of fresh watermelon salsa. I first made this for a beach playdate last year and although it sounds really strange, it is actually very tasty. I lucked out finding red, green and white tortilla chips to serve alongside it.
You’ll find the Watermelon Salsa recipe here.
I found the recipe for the adorable layered watermelon pops on the Kraft Canada website. I have been meaning to try this recipe for a while, as my kids love popsicles once the weather turns warm. This was the perfect excuse and I loved the way the recipe turned out with my substitution of Jelly Belly Watermelon flavoured jelly powder instead of Strawberry.
Finally, I had some store bought mini watermelon cupcakes and watermelon shaped candies I put out on the table to finish things off.
What is your favorite summertime treat? I think my little watermelon inspired treat table has something for just about everyone at your next playdate or barbeque. With a quick trip to the Dollar Store and a few groceries, you could easily execute a watermelon themed party of your own.
