Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day this year? We’ll be staying in and planning a fun night at home as a family. I will always choose an evening at home with my family over a night out. With these unique Valentine party ideas, you can stay cozy inside while spending time with the ones you love. No rushed dinner reservations, no babysitter cancellations, no lineups at the theatre…just family, treats and giggles.
Walmart Canada recently conducted a survey with some interesting results:
It seems that cupid has hit the hearts of Canadians as more than half (60 per cent) will be shopping for a gift this Valentine’s Day. Furthermore, they will be looking to spoil their special someone, spending $177 on average. According to this year’s survey, the most popular gifts for Valentine’s Day are candy (51 per cent) followed by greeting cards (34 per cent), apparel/footwear (27 per cent), gift cards (16 per cent) toys (14 per cent), and flowers (13 per cent).
Do you usually buy Valentine’s gifts for your significant other or your children? I usually get my husband and son each a card with a few little treats and then we plan a fun evening together. I enjoy the memorable experiences more than the flowers.
Valentine Party Ideas:
I went on an adventure through Walmart yesterday to find the perfect party for our night of family fun. There were so many ideas to choose from and my mind was racing with ideas!
Indoor Camping Adventure:
My first idea was to build a tent in the basement and have an indoor camping adventure with s’mores, lanterns, a “fish fry” with crackers, and stories in front of the fireplace. The electric s’mores maker first caught my eye and my mind starting brainstorming ideas from there. You could serve all sorts of s’mores treats, wild bears (Teddy Grahams), wild rabbits (bunny crackers and gummies), “fry” fish in your frying pan over a fake fire, eat those cute mini cereal treats, set up lanterns and bring all your favourite books into your indoor tent.
I’m Bananas Over You:
Next up is a cute monkey-themed party for “I’m Bananas Over You”. At Walmart you’ll find several cute stuffed monkeys perfect as gifts and to decorate your party area. In the party section, you’ll find monkey plates, cups, napkins, etc. for treats. For games, there are a few different monkey-themed games you could play as a family. What’s a monkey’s favourite food? Bananas, of course! There are so many options for banana treats for your party: ice cream, yogurt pops, cookies, banana cream pie, pudding and more!
Make Your Own Candy Party:
Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without candy, right? A fun idea for a Valentine’s Day party would be a Make Your Own Candy theme. At Walmart they have cute machines for making your own gummy candy, cake pops, mini donuts and more. You can also find kits for decorating your own cookies!
Tween Party:
Have kids who may be outgrowing a family party? Walmart has clever ideas for them as well! There are funny themed chocolates like The Perfect Man or oversized Hershey’s Kisses. For the girls, a fun idea would be to have a nail art painting party while watching a romantic comedy movie. There are so many movies to pick from at Walmart! For boys, you’ll find a variety of Star Wars or racing movies along with plenty of snacks for movie night.
Drive-In Movie Party Ideas:
Speaking of movies, you’ll find everything you need at Walmart for creating the ultimate indoor drive-in movie party! I love the light up balloons – these could be filled with helium and put up on the ceiling as “stars” for your drive-in movie. You’ll find plenty of glowing decorations like glow sticks, glowing foam stickers, glowing paint for a fun craft and more. Walmart has a huge selection of movies and they are organized to help you easily find what you want – discounted movies, movies for kids, love stories, etc. Of course movie night wouldn’t be complete without snacks and Walmart has so many to choose from – popcorn, candy, pizza, etc.
Non-Candy Treats:
My son isn’t a big fan of sweets (he didn’t inherit that from me!) so I loved the non-candy section of Valentine’s Day ideas: crafts, stamps, games, bubbles, containers for making your own personalized gift, stuffed animals, small toys and more. If you’re making treat bags for your child’s friends or classmates, this is a great place to do your shopping.
Sweet Treats:
My son may not be a big fan of sweets but I sure am! Walmart has several delicious treat ideas for Valentine’s Day – many are peanut free making them acceptable to send to school. My son has severe allergies so we don’t bring any food in the house that has come in contact with peanuts or tree nuts so I loved the large variety to choose from.
Phew! What did I tell you – so many creative options, right? So what did we choose for our family Valentine’s Day party? Head over to our Family Valentine’s Night to see all the fun details!
