Toyota has your family’s needs in mind! I was recently invited to Toyota’s “The Right Vehicle to Fit Your Family’s Needs” event in Calgary. A group of around 20 bloggers were invited to learn more about what items should be taken into consideration when choosing the right vehicle for your family. We then had the pleasure of test driving some great Toyota vehicles. The photo below is my test drive in the 4Runner.
Toyota Event – The Right Vehicle to Fit My Family’s Needs:
When I was first invited to this exclusive event, my aunt teased me by saying “Are you sure these aren’t the tryouts for Canada’s Worst Driver?”. Thankfully it wasn’t! In fact, I had a chance to show off my driving skills in a safety cone course…even going through the course backwards! I’m happy to say that all safety cones were left standing when I was done!
Did you know that Toyota has received 10 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2012 Top Safety Pick Awards? In fact, Toyota’s Star Safety System ™ (click here to learn more) is standard on every 2011 and newer vehicle. These 6 advanced accident avoidance safety technologies include:

- Electronic Brake-Force Distribution
- Smart Stop Technology
The vehicles I had a chance to look at were the Sequoia, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna, 4Runner and Venza.
I admit that the largest vehicle there was my favorite – the Sequoia. It’s an 8 passenger SUV with an easy to fold down 3rd row of seating. This is certainly a vehicle I’d love to drive around! One of the coolest things on the vehicle (something I’ve never seen before) was the side-view mirrors that automatically adjust for you when you put the vehicle into reverse. How cool is that?! It really is a fabulous vehicle.
Something else that I loved was that the 2nd row of seats were adjustable so you could slide them back for more room. This would have been so handy when we had my son’s reverse facing bucket seat.
There was also a Highlander Hybrid available for test drives. I couldn’t believe how quiet the vehicle was! These environmentally friendly vehicles provide more kilometres on less fuel. The event showroom included a Highlander vehicle with a kayak in the back of the vehicle. Yes, a kayak! Now that’s a lot of room!
