This Skeleton Head Cake Pops tutorial is courtesy of our contributor Deanna of Dee’s-licious Desserts…October is my favorite time of year. I love the smell of fall, the spooky decorations, and the colorful leaves. Last year I created a fun vampire cake pop that was more cute than spooky and everyone loved it. I decided to go cute again this year with a fun skeleton head with crazy cotton candy hair! Let’s get started.
Skeleton Head Cake Pops – Supplies:
- cake pop dough
- cake pop sticks
- white chocolate
- black edible marker (or you can use black chocolate)
- cotton candy
- a new paint brush
- water
- toothpicks
- paper towel
- cake pop stand or styrofoam block
First roll out our cake pops, then dip your sticks into the white chocolate and then directly into the cake pop ball.
Once that chocolate has hardened dip the entire cake pop into the chocolate and tap off any excess chocolate. Place cake pop into your stand or styrofoam block until chocolate has hardened.
Draw on eyes and a mouth with your edible marker. If you do not have an edible marker, you can use a toothpick and black chocolate to do these details.
Dip the tip of your toothpick into the white chocolate and give your skeleton some eyes.
I used two toothpicks to pull cotton candy pieces to keep them fluffy. Once you have a pile of cotton candy fluff take your paint brush and dip it into some water.
Paint the water onto the cake pop where you want the hair to stick. Then, take a paper towel and blot off the water. This is very important, you want the cake pop slightly tacky, but not wet. We don’t want a melted cotton candy mess. It doesn’t take much to get it to stick, so don’t be afraid to blot off most of the water.
Using the toothpicks place the cotton candy fluff onto the cake pop. I did a couple different styles. Don’t be afraid to build the hair up and make it extra big.
If your cotton candy starts to melt don’t worry, you can pull it off easily and start again. You won’t need to add any water as the cake pop will be sticky enough from the first attempt.
