This Retro Diner Party post is courtesy of our contributor Michelle…It’s Party Tip Tuesday and I’m bringing you a simple and quick way to make Dad feel special this Father’s Day. Last year we celebrated Father’s Day with a Fabulous 50s style “Dad’s Diner” party.
Retro Diner Party:
To set the tone and to take our guests back in time, I created a large Dad’s Diner Menu backdrop for our diner counter to display my husband’s favorite treats.
To add to the ambiance, I found a retro style dinette set and covered our kitchen floor with a large checkered table cloth.
Dinner was served in burger baskets and refreshments were served in Coca-Cola glasses with paper straws.
I made cupcake “sundaes”, displayed store bought pies and donuts along with custom made “Dad’s Diner” logo cookies.
I really wanted to make record shaped cake pops for the party, but since I have very limited cake decorating skills, I had to improvise and decided to make these “Dad’s Greatest Hits” candy licorice records. I have a free printable here with instructions on how to make some for your own party!
Dad’s Greatest Hits Treats:
What you will need:
- Black licorice wheels
- Record Label Printable File
- White 8.5 x11 card stock
- Scissors
- Optional – 1 inch circle punch and mini hole puncher
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
Directions:
Print the file on white 8.5 x11 cardstock. Using a 1 inch circle punch or scissors cut out each “record label”. Optional, to add depth, use a small hole punch and punch out the center circle. Place the label on top of your black licorice wheels.
