This post of Modern Board Game Night Ideas is courtesy of our contributor Dawn of Revel and Glitter…Thanks to the hygge movement, and a living in a world taken over by screens, many people are craving more face-to-face interaction. Board game nights are making a comeback; you can’t have friends come over and stare at each other. You need something for everyone to bond and laugh over and enjoy a snack or two — so you whip out the board games.
Let’s talk about what you need to host your own awesome get-together!
Modern Board Game Night Ideas:
The Décor
I love Paper and Cake’s game night party printable set! From food signage to banners to water bottle labels, it has everything you need from a touch of simple décor to a full-blown Pinterest-inspired spread.
I used these Scrabble letters as a fun backdrop for our Ladies’ Game Night Out. Made out of thick foam, you can turn them into a table runner or as a pathway to the festivities.
Check out Martha Stewart’s how-to for framing your own prints.
The Games
Step up your entertaining game (all pun intended) with designer twists on traditional games.
Personalized playing cards from Mark and Graham.
Rustic Yahtzee set from Target.
Marble domino set from CB2.
Ridley Games Room backgammon set from Amazon.
Hayneedle’s wooden Chinese checkers.
The Food
Keep it simple with snacks that can be easily replenished and nibbled on during game play. Set up a fun buffet with lots of different snacks from pretzels to candy and flavored nuts!
These Monopoly bowls from Ebay would be a fun addition to your table. I scored mine during the holidays from Target, so these are the last of their kind.
Make simple cones from parchment paper to serve up snacks and keep those game-playing hands free.
I love the idea of a soft pretzel bar; DIY it! Or cater it from your local pretzel spot.
If you need something more substantial, you can provide drinks and invite everyone to bring a dish for potluck dinner. Be sure and specify what each guest should bring…or you may find yourself with quite a few brownie pans or bagged salads.
Keep your gang connected with a modern board game night in…it is an awesome way to enjoy evenings before summer activities begin.
