This post is courtesy of our contributor Chantelle…I am all about the DIY details when it comes to planning a party and love coming up with fun and easy ways to tie my theme into all aspects of the party. I have designed custom drink bottle labels for many of my parties and they are such a great little detail to help carry out your party theme. They are relatively easy to make with a bit of cutting and taping, and are an inexpensive option to dress up something you would be buying for your party anyway.
We recently had my son’s 5th birthday and he chose a Super Mario theme. When planning the menu, I recalled the small bottles of Hawaiian punch I had used at his sister’s cupcake themed first birthday and decided I would give the brightly colored drinks a Mario twist.
Mario Party Drinks:
For my Mario inspired bottle, I decided to work with the red, green and pink bottles of Hawaiian Punch. I kept the label designs fairly simple, drawing inspiration from Mario and Luigi’s iconic blue overalls and Princess Peach’s pink dress.
To customize the bottles, I began by printing out the files and cutting out each of the labels with my exacto knife and ruler. To prepare the drink bottles, I simply removed the manufacturer labels. This does not have to be perfect as your labels will cover over what is left in the glued areas. To put the labels on, I used one piece of double sided tape to secure it over the glued label area, and a second piece where my label overlapped once it was wrapped around the bottle.
The finishing detail for the party was to serve each bottle of juice with a moustache or crown topped straw. I was able to find the moustache straws at Party City and I easily created my own crown toppers by cutting out gold colored cardstock and adding on a few stick-on rhinestones.
I love that these are something you can make ahead in the weeks leading up to a party and have ready while you are doing all your last minute party prep. The brightly colored drinks are not something I would serve my kids on a daily basis, but they were a fun treat at the party and all the little guests seemed to enjoy sipping them through the themed straws.
