This review of Hyatt Regency Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas is courtesy of our contributor Cheryl of Kids On A Plane…When visiting a new city, my family usually chooses a hotel close to the downtown core – either walking distance to major attractions we plan to visit or close to public transit so we can get around easily without having to spend a fortune on gas, parking, car and car seat rentals.
When I think of San Antonio, Texas, the River Walk immediately comes to mind and staying in that area is a very popular choice for first time visitors.
However, a recent media trip to Texas had me spending two nights at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa which made me rethink how to choose a home base when travelling with kids.
Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa:
This kid-friendly spa and golf resort is situated on 300 acres of a family ranch – just 2 miles away from SeaWorld San Antonio and approximately 30 minutes driving to the San Antonio River Walk and Alamo.
The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort boasts a spa, a 27-hole golf course, nature and jogging trails, bike rentals, 8 places to grab a bite including their award-winning restaurant Antlers Lodge and an incredible 5-acre water park and play area featuring a lazy river, multiple pools, poolside cabanas, and FlowRider Wave Machine.
If this resort weren’t so close to the city, guests would never have to leave the grounds.
As you enter the resort grounds, you feel as though you’re pulling up to an upscale Texas lodge. Sky high ceilings, stone walls, wood beams, leather sofas and snacks for guests to enjoy in the lobby set the tone of your stay at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa – it’s going to be relaxing!
My deluxe room with balcony had a king bed, mini refrigerator, flat screen TV, coffee maker, and a spacious bathroom. The Texan artwork and wood and leather accents keeps with the ranch setting.
For families looking for a little more luxury, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort has suites, club level rooms and a private two-story villa available for reservation as well.
As mentioned above, there are so many activities for every age group, families will not get bored at this resort.
There’s movies and s’mores under the stars, ice cream and donuts in the lobby, the water park, tennis court, a 24-hour gym and Camp Hyatt – a children’s program for kids 3 to 12 (arts and crafts, swimming, scavenger hunts and more).
If you just want to sit and relax, you can grab a seat at one of the rocking chairs on Aunt Mary’s porch overlooking the resort grounds.
Dining at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa
I only had two meals at the resort – breakfast at Springhouse Cafe (one buffet, one a la carte) – and both were very enjoyable.
There was plenty of selection at the buffet including fresh fruit, cheese, meats, pastries and made to order omelettes.
I took a sneak peek at the menu at Antlers Lodge and the dinner dishes sound incredible. Antelope Carpaccio, Texas Charcuterie, Texas Rubbed Elk, Corn Masa Sopes – yes please!
Overall Impressions
Given how family friendly the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is, this is the perfect home base if you’re visiting San Antonio.
It is a beautiful property that is far enough to feel relaxed but close enough to many of San Antonio’s kid-friendly attractions.
If your family likes to golf, swim, jog, relax or eat, I would highly recommend booking a room at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa.
