The Calgary Stampede is happening right now – an annual 10-day event with amusement park rides, pancake breakfasts, live performances and plenty of cowboy hats. Before I had children, I lived in Calgary for 10 years so I had plenty of opportunities to participate in the Calgary Stampede festivities and it was always a lot of fun.

My son and I were in Calgary a couple of weeks ago for a few days of family fun adventures. We packed a lot into 5 days there – Skyline Luge, Calgary Zoo, Calgary Tower, Telus Spark, CrossIron Mills Outlet Shopping, and more! While there we stayed in the stylish new boutique hotel Hotel Clique & Applause Hotel. I’d highly recommend it for your next trip to Calgary!

Applause Hotel Calgary

Hotel Clique Calgary

The hotel is located in northeast Calgary just minutes from the Calgary airport. We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights and I never heard a plane while we were in our room. I love the convenience of the location without all the noise! The hotel does offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport for added convenience.

Not only is it a great location if you’re flying out of Calgary but it’s convenient to Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail too. You can see the hotel from Deerfoot Trail and you can easily access one of these main roads to take you to the many attractions in and around Calgary. For those of you not familiar with Calgary, Deerfoot Trail is a freeway section of Highway 2 so if you’re coming in from Airdrie, you’ll enter the city right onto Deerfoot Trail. From Deerfoot Trail you’ll have easy access to the Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark, Calgary’s downtown, CrossIron Mills outlet mall and many of Calgary’s other main roads.

Boutique Style Hotel:

This hotel is fairly new so there is some construction in the area but it didn’t affect the roadways around the hotel at all. What sets them apart from other hotels in the area is their unique boutique style. Here’s a sneak peek at one our room in the Applause Hotel with an overview of Hotel Clique as well.

As you can see, all of the decor is modern & they really do think of every detail in the rooms. Something they have that I haven’t seen before is your room keycard also acts as power for the room. When you enter the room, you have to put your hotel keycard in the holder by the door and that allows you to access the power (lights, etc.). Such a great idea for saving energy!

The bathroom is spacious as well and I loved the shower! We just renovated our bathrooms at home last year but now I’m ready for another upgrade. Also, you’ve gotta love having a TV in the bathroom!

The hotels also have two rooftop hot tubs with a lounging area. The perfect way to unwind after a busy day of travel! You’ll also find an indoor gym by the hot tub area.

The lobby area is welcoming as well with access to Tonic Kitchen & Bar, a selection of free movies you can rent for your room, and (of of my favourites), luggage carts you can use to help take all your bags back and forth from your room to your car.

I have nothing but good things to say about Hotel Clique and Applause Hotel. The staff was all really friendly and accommodating. The hotel is new, clean, well-maintained and quiet.

For a truly unique experience, they also have three special suites: Vinyl Suite (with a rock & roll theme), Corner Pocket Suite (bar, pool table, and more) and the Taboo Suite (perfect for a Bachelorette party).

  1. Hi Cheryl, I appreciate the review, I’ve been thinkind about recommending Clique for my clients who come to town and now I will! Do you have more pics of the restaurant, would you recommend that for business dinners?

    • Hi Carter! We didn’t eat at the restaurant while we were there (my son has severe food allergies) but we did pop in a couple of times to buy some waters and it looks like a nice restaurant. Spacious seating areas and quiet enough that you can still hold a conversation. I hope that helps!
