The back-to-school season is officially underway. We’ve all “liked” the first day of school photos on Facebook and I know many of you have cried watching your children get onto the school bus. You’ve probably spent the last few weeks getting ready for the new school year by shopping for all of the school supplies. In addition to the adorable new outfits, the latest character backpacks and fruit-scented markers, your family medicine cabinet may need some replenishment as well for these healthy essentials™.

With excited kids in the playground, bruises, bumps and scrapes will happen. If your children are anything like mine, a little scrape or bump won’t slow them down. My son recently took an interest in tennis but he’s quite creative with the rules. His version of tennis is more like a mixture of hockey, soccer, baseball and tennis. It’s so funny to watch the way he’ll chase after the ball squealing and giggling but he’s in such a rush to be the first to the ball that he falls a lot on the way there. His poor knees are always scraped and bleeding by the time he’s done playing – a true, tough athlete I suppose – so we always have BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages on hand. BAND-AID® TOUGH-STRIPS® Family Pack is great because I can then keep some in my purse, car and in the house.

Help those wounds heal faster by using POLYSPORIN® COMPLETE HEAL-FAST® Formula as a protective coating over minor cuts, scrapes and burns. Just the other day, my son was having a little tickle fight with Nana and he got a little too excited and bit me on the arm. Let me tell you…he has sharp teeth! You know what the doctor recommended that I put on my boo-boo? POLYSPORIN®. Although there is a POLYSPORIN® Kid’s ointment, the POLYSPORIN® COMPLETE HEAL-FAST® Formula is suitable for all ages and so many little accidents and wounds. This product is designed to protect against infection so that minor wounds can heal faster than using sterile dressing alone. I know you’ll want to heal those boo-boos quickly before it’s time for class photos.

Speaking of class photos (and teeth!), a proper dental routine can help make your child’s smile bright. Our son recently had his first visit to the dentist but he wasn’t too happy about getting his teeth looked at. He loved the TV above the dentist chair but when it came time for the dentist to look in his mouth he wasn’t very happy about it. At the end of the visit, the kids get to go to the “treasure box” and pick out a little gift to take home. He couldn’t wait to get out of the dentist chair but then we couldn’t get him out of the office when he saw that box of treasures! I can only imagine how hard it would be for him to have dental work done so this was a great reminder on how important proper oral hygiene is. My husband and I have been using LISTERINE® TOTAL CARE® ZERO® as it’s an alcohol-free mouthwash so the taste is a bit less intense but it still kills bad breath germs, reduces gingivitis and prevents plaque. I don’t think the dentist has a treasure box for adults so we don’t want to make additional trips there for dental work.

Before I had my son, I didn’t seem to have any allergies. After hormone changes during pregnancy, it seems like I’m always getting itchy, sneezing and rubbing my watery eyes. On a trip to Toronto last year, I woke up with one really puffy eye. Of course I happened to be there for a conference and I had several appointments scheduled with potential clients. One swollen and red eye wasn’t the first impression I wanted to leave with these potential clients. There was a drugstore across the street so I rushed over there to talk to the pharmacist about it. She recommended BENADRYL® and it’s now one of the essentials in our medicine cabinet. The BENADRYL® LIQUI-GELS® provide fast, effective relief from allergies and allergic reactions so that I can keep up with the rest of my family and our busy routines.

  1. Those are ALL must-haves! I carry those around with me just in case! That and my hubby’s on the First Response and Volunteer Fire Department. He makes me carry those around. The Listerine? A must since I’m all about mouthwash and breath that smells good! LOL!

  2. I can’t remember when I haven’t carried a band-aid in my purse since I had kids. They are a must for any occasion. We recently acquired a tent trailer. One of the first things on the list was our first aid kit. In it was band-aids of course and polysporin. 🙂
