A Favorite Foods Party Table for Teens

This Favorite Foods Party Table for Teens post is courtesy of our contributor Dawn…As a parent of teenage boys, it is getting harder to talk them into a traditional party; all they want is a sleepover, to eat pizza and play video games. This sounds like every parent’s dream, but the party planner in me can’t accept that. When I came across this fun wrapping paper at a local homewares store, it got my party brain turning to create a party table that can be a happy compromise.

Favorite Foods Party:

A favorite foods (calling it junk food seems so wrong!) party table is a great way to have a little fun with the requisite treats and still have an older feel to appease a picky guest-of-honor. The best part, it is completely customizable…from favorite desserts and snacks to appetizers and comfort food (mmm…a Mac + Cheese Party)!

Keeping food simple is the best way to cut down on party stress. Teens will eat just about anything, just have plenty of it! It’s all about the presentation!

Doughnut walls are so hot right now…so how about a pretzel wall! I covered a 2’ square piece of pegboard (purchase and cut at your local hardware store) with butcher paper, then inserted ¼” dowels to hang the soft pretzels. Don’t forget to have a variety of dips like cheese and chocolate sauces for maximum dunkability.

When I saw Oh Happy Day!’s so-fun clay word tutorials, I knew I had to recreate the look. I inserted wood skewers before baking, then painted them when cooled to turn them into food labels. Be warned…these are time consuming so don’t wait until the last minute if you plan on making them. But ahh…so worth it…

  • Sliders are a great way to entertain; teens are less likely to waste them than they would with a full burger.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, tint frosting to your desired color, then melt in the microwave, about 10 – 15 seconds, to a runny consistency. Dip the top of cake doughnuts into the frosting and set to cool on a sheet of wax paper. Add sprinkles before the frosting cools and sets.
  • French fry boxes are easy to find at a local restaurant supply store or on Amazon.
  • Don’t forget the fun paper straws! I purchased mine from Anthropologie, but sadly they are no longer available there. You can find them at this Etsy shop.

  • Finish the look with striped plates and fast food themed cutlery and don’t be afraid to break out the ‘pretty’ paper napkins.
  • Themed balloons and beach toys make easy and inexpensive décor and double as photo ops!
