How early do you start planning Halloween costumes for yourself and your family? I can usually wait until September to do my shopping but by the time September comes around my mom has already found a few gently-used costumes at summer garage sales. Actually, she started scooping up costumes years before I was even pregnant! Let’s just say she’s one excited grandma. All of these costumes are great for playtime and pictures in the scrapbook but I love shopping for DIY Halloween costume ideas. I love digging through racks and finding the pieces to put together an adorable and unique costume. I can usually find a few pieces for my husband and myself, too, so that we have a whole family-themed costume.
Value Village is always the place to go for Halloween costume ideas. With the large selection of new costumes and the unique selection of gently used pieces, you’re sure to find something that’s unique. While browsing the selection of new costumes, I came across a cute horse costume that looks as though the child is riding the horse. I knew I could work with this to make a great DIY Halloween costume! I did a little bit of shopping in the clothing area and we found a plaid shirt and cowboy boots that were in my son’s size. Jackpot! I spent less than $30 for the horse costume, plaid shirt and cowboy boots.
We paired those pieces with a pair of blue jeans and a costume cowboy hat and it turned out perfectly! Although my son isn’t used to wearing little heels on cowboy boots, he was all smiles and ready to pose for pictures. I think there is a lot more “country” in this little boy than we thought!

Fantastic place! Your little guy is a true natural cowboy 🙂
Love this costume… and love Value Village. It’s where we either gotten their costumes or accessories for the past few years.
Your little guy looks so cute as a cowboy! Funny you post about Value Village, as I just went in this week after not stopping by for a few years. I was really impressed by their costume section, and that they had a dressed up staff member actually working in the section and helping.
the MOST adorable cowboy ever!!! Love the costume. Value Village is our first place to stop for costumes every year
Tee hee! This is adorable! I love the little cowboy boots! I am a big fan of homemade costumes; it encourages so much more creativity!
