My son (5 years old) and I visited Calgary in June for 4 nights and we packed a lot fun into our trip! We didn’t get a chance to see everything on our list but we’ll be making a trip there again soon for even more fun adventures. If you’re looking for some exciting things to do in Calgary with younger kids, here are four Calgary family attractions that I highly recommend.
Calgary Zoo:
There are so many things to see and do in the Calgary Zoo. In addition to all the animals there are some great play areas inside the zoo.
The Kinsmen ZooVenture Playground (outside of Destination Africa) is full of fun slides, tunnels and mazes.
I’d recommend grabbing a map when you first arrive at the zoo so you can plan out your visit and check out some of the live shows and demonstrations throughout the day.
You won’t want to miss the Prehistoric Park – Dinosaurs Alive! This was my son’s favourite area of the zoo. You can get up close with several dinosaurs (some even roar!) with lots of fun photo opportunities.
Calaway Park:
Calaway Park is Western Canada’s largest outdoor family amusement park and they have fun rides and attractions for all ages. With 32 family-friendly rides, there is something for everyone here. My son is 5 years old and there were several rides that he could go on by himself or with me.

You pay once at the gate and then you have access to unlimited rides inside the park plus attractions and live shows. Plan to spend an entire day here because there is so much to see & do inside the park!
Telus Spark:
My son absolutely loved it here and we spent four hours exploring Telus Spark. My son was disappointed when they were closing for the day because he could’ve spent a lot longer playing here.
Most of our time was spent in the Creative Kids Museum. They have an indoor play structure, a water table area with toys, a stage where kids can perform their own show (even work the stage lights on their own) and other fun science-themed activities.

They have a large outdoor playground as well that was popular with the kids. All ages are welcome to play but I found that most of the areas outside were a bit too challenging for my son. There were some kids smaller than him though climbing the big structure and going down the slide so it all depends on your child’s interests and comfort levels.
They have great live shows scheduled throughout the day as well. There are lots of hands-on activities and experiments here to entertain all ages. The staff is wonderful here! They are interactive with the kids, they walk around to make sure everyone is having fun, they encourage the kids to explore, teach them science experiments, and more.
Skyline Luge:
Located in Canada Olympic Park, you ride the chairlift up the hill then travel down the track (5905 feet) in a luge kart. The track is filled with twists and turns but you’ll have complete control of your speed. My son was tall enough to ride on his own but we went together because I was more comfortable with him riding with me.
It started raining when we were there so we had a bit of a delay getting up the hill and down the track but the sun soon came out again so we were able to continue our adventure. It’s a really fun experience so you’ll want to purchase more than one ride down the track.
