Although I’m shy in many social situations, I’ve always thought of myself as independent. Do I still call my dad when my car breaks down? You bet. Do I let my husband help with housework? Absolutely! When I’m sick do I still want my Momma? I sure do! I embrace the support from my family and I find comfort in having them close but I’ve always jumped at opportunities to help me grow as an individual. At 19 years old I moved to a new province to try things on my own and I loved it! In my early 20’s, I hopped on a plane without a travel buddy to meet a friend in Thailand. In my mid-20’s, I jumped at the chance to work up North in a construction field where 99% of the workers were male. I enjoy pushing myself to try new things and I’m always driving my husband crazy with my latest business ideas that I just must try! I get that entrepreneurial spirit from my dad.
I feel that all girls should have an opportunity to test our their independence and chase their dreams. This is one of the reasons why I love the Sears Canada Because I’m A Girl initiative.
Because I Am A Girl:
The Because I Am A Girl initiative support projects which improve the lives of girls in developing countries and give them equal access to health care, education, protection, independence and an opportunity to participate in society. I’ve never let my gender hold me back from chasing an opportunity and I wish that girls all over the world could have the same opportunities to chase their dreams.
Through Sears Canada’s partnership with Plan Canada, Sears donates a portion of their net proceeds from the sale of their Girl Confidential merchandise to this initiative.
How You Can Help:
One percent (1%) of all of Sears’ Girl Confidential brand sales go toward the charity but there are some limited edition items available this spring. Sears collaborated with Plan Canada on limited edition t-shirts and totes made in Bangladesh and 100% of the proceeds of the sales will be given to Because I am a Girl to be invested back into Bangladesh to provide education and community programs for girls. The shirts are now only $14.97 and the totes are $9.97. This is an excellent way to give back while teaching your children!
Don’t forget to update your own summer wardrobe as well. Here’s a sneak peek into the Sears Summer Fashions. I love the Swim Skort!
Newborn Nesting Event:
The popular Newborn Nesting Event is also running at Sears from April 18th to May 1st with incredible deals in-store and online. If you’re preparing for a new bundle of joy, you won’t want to miss this event!
Disclosure: I am part of the Sears Mom Ambassador program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
