I used to be so self-conscious about going out in public without eye makeup. Mascara was the one makeup item that I couldn’t go without. I’m blonde with a very fair skin tone and my eyelashes are blonde so without a bit of colour, I just look really washed out. Since becoming a mom, I’ve had to put aside my concerns about my lack of makeup while out in public and just hope that I don’t run into anyone I know…especially an ex. No one wants to run into an ex when you aren’t wearing makeup, right? Please let me that I’m not the only one who has that silly fear! With these beauty tips for busy moms, I feel more confident about planning a quick beauty routine.
A friend and I visited the Beauty Boutique at Shopper’s Drug Mart today to learn more about the products they offer and what products are perfect for a quick beauty routine. The representative helping us, Barb, was excellent! She understood our concerns and was quick to offer manageable suggestions. Since the representatives don’t work for one particular brand of makeup, they are able to mix & match products from different brands to provide you with a customized beauty routine. As you can see, there is a huge selection to choose from!
Beauty Tips for Busy Moms:
Have you ever purchased a beauty product and then realized you didn’t know how to properly apply it once you got home? That has always been my problem! I find a product that looks great on the shelf but then I get home and I don’t understand how to properly apply it so it sits at the bottom of my makeup drawer.
There is always someone to help answer your questions, find the right shade and give you a demonstration for application in the Beauty Boutique.
Beauty Tip For Busy Moms – Never be afraid to ask questions – the representatives are there to help you make informed decisions.
I’ve always wanted to know how to do a smokey eye look but my attempts had always looked like messy smudged makeup. Certainly not the look I was going for! Today at the Beauty Boutique we were introduced to a Clinque product called All About Shadow Quad. It has all of the colours you need to create the perfect smokey eye plus there are instructions under the lid. Brilliant, right?!
Even with the helpful instructions, I was worried that I’d get home and not know how to use it so Barb gave us a demonstration. She used the product to give me a smokey eye on one side and then let me try on my other eye. I think I mastered it!
Beauty Tips for Busy Moms – Applying a thin layer of eyeshadow over eyeliner will help it to stay in place all day.
Beauty Tip for Busy Moms – Did you know that if you draw a little circle on your hand first with your eyeliner, it helps to smooth out the product so it glides onto your eyelid without tugging and pulling?
The friend I was with had heard a lot of great things about Benefit’s Beyond Mascara so we knew we had to give it a try. It is supposed to add length, volume and curls to your natural lashes and it is one of their best sellers.
Beauty Tips For Busy Moms – Did you know that you can achieve a more full effect if you apply mascara in a downward motion on a closed eye’s lashes before opening your eye and applying it upwards on your lashes?
Do you apply moisturizer, concealer, foundation and finishing powder? It’s a lot of steps, right? We were introduced to Clinique’s BB (or CC) Cream that acts as a tinted moisturizer and a sunscreen with a matte finish. I have oily skin so my face can sometimes get really shiny. I was really happy with how this product went on, the amount of coverage it gave and how long it held up throughout the day.
Beauty Tips For Busy Moms – Look for a product that multi-tasks like a moisturizer, a skin tone corrector and a sunscreen all in one!
I always have a difficult time choosing a lip colour. I often just use a plain lip gloss but I wanted to try something that glides on smoothly and lasts for a long time. I really liked Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear – it’s the perfect mixture of colour and gloss for me.
Beauty Tip for Busy Moms – Did you know that when you’re trying to select the right colour of lipstick you should put the sample on your fingertips to get a better look at the colour? The pad of your fingertip is the closest to the natural colour of your lips.
I really enjoyed our visit to the Beauty Boutique and I think I gained a lot of great new makeup tips. The next time that I have a question about makeup or skincare, I know who to go see!

I could really use a lesson in how to correctly apply makeup. I was never taught how to do it. So, I usually stick with just foundation, one shade of eyeshadow and lip gloss. Love your tips! Now I want to try that BB (CC) cream. I need to start using something with sunscreen on my face.
