My son loves everything about airplanes…well, all except sitting still when we’re riding in one. He has loads of airplane toys, he’s watched the Planes movie more times than I can count and he’s always running around the house with his planes while making them “fly”. With our spring weather still feeling like winter (can you believe it snowed again tonight?!), we’re always looking for more fun ways to play indoors. After my son went to sleep tonight, I started working on a fun airport for him to play with tomorrow. I know he’ll be excited when he wakes up to see it!

Airplane Play Ideas:

We certainly don’t have a shortage of airplane toys around here so I started by using removable tape and making a runway out of our coffee table.

I put two glow sticks at the end to light the way for the planes.

Then we needed a place for all the passengers so I created a silly airport out of a cardboard box complete with windows for an airport viewing area, doors for the travelers to walk in and out of, and a tower for Air Traffic Controllers. For the tower I simply used a tube from a roll of wrapping paper, a plastic cup and some duct tape.

We also needed a place for the travelers baggage so I used an upside down baking cup, a plastic plate and a craft wire to make a rotating baggage carousel.

I’m sure my son will be excited to play with this tomorrow – I know I’m excited to play too! If your child loves airplanes, be sure to visit our special Airplane category for even more fun ideas!
