Welcome to Party Tip Tuesday! Today we’re featuring Dorangela with Two Prince Bakery Theater. In this feature, Dorangela shares tips with us on planning a party menu when some of the guests have food allergies. As a mother of a child with a food allergy, I know how stressful it can be to attend a party when there are delicious treats around that your child can’t have. Dorangela has some greats tips for making sure all of your party guests are able to enjoy the food while staying safe.
1) What is Two Prince Bakery Theater?
Two Prince Bakery Theater is a culmination of gluten and dairy free baked goods and foods with lots of party styling and crafting thrown in!
2) As a parent who has children with food allergies, I’m sure you sometimes worry about the food they will eat at a party. When hosting & planning a party of your own, do you ask the parents for allergy information along with the RSVP?
I am very aware of children with food allergies being able to participate and enjoy everything being served at any of the parties that I throw or style. I usually am familiar with the children attending but if I don’t I make sure to find out. No child or party attendee for that matter should be deprived from enjoying every delicious aspect of a beautiful party! I think many people are becoming more aware of this and are making allergen free treats available at parties and special events such as weddings even if they do not have food allergies themselves.
3) What is your favorite (allergy-friendly) bite-sized treat for kids at a party?
My boys love my gluten and dairy free cookies and mini doughnuts. None of the guests even notice that they’re having something allergen friendly!
4) Is it possible to do a candy buffet favor idea when you have guests with allergies? If so, do you have any suggestions of items to look for?
I specialize in styling allergen free dessert tables, so yes. In the past I’ve had specialty custom cotton candy favors, candied apples, and of course I have a gluten and dairy free bakery so cookie favors are always popular as well. If you can find a reputable gluten-free baker or confectioner – {I know a great one} – you can work together to create an amazing dessert table that everyone will enjoy! A lot of companies now label their candy and treats specifying if they’re gluten free and nut free. One of my favorite companies Enjoy Life Foods sells allergen free chocolate, bars and more. I’ve incorporated their treats into homemade desserts with great results!
5) What are some of your favorite ways to gift wrap a gift from the kitchen?
You only get one chance to make a first impression…the same is true when presenting someone with a gift from the kitchen. Depending on what the baked good is, I love to wrap a beautiful banana bread loaf baked in a colorful paper loaf pan then placed in a large cellophane bag with a beautiful tag and my favorite The Twinery twine bow. For my cookies and cupcakes I am always on the lookout for gorgeous bakery boxes. My favorite line is Martha Stewart Livings. A gorgeous box filled with decadent treats is always a gift that is sure to please!
