This post is courtesy of our contributor Shayna…My daughter recently turned 4 and I threw her a My Little Pony party. Besides the massive cake, I kept the candy and sweets to a minimum. I thought it would be nice, however, to have at least one treat among the trays of fruits and veggies. I went in search of a candy popcorn recipe and although most of them looked pretty I really wanted to add some flavour to the popcorn. So I thought – what about Kool-Aid? It worked perfectly. Not only does it give you some nice vibrant colours but it adds some nice fruity flavour to the treat.
This recipe is enough to do two batches of colours. You can easily double it to do more.
Kool-Aid Popcorn Ingredients:
- About 9 cups of popped corn
- 1 cup of butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 2 packages of Kool-Aid
Kool-Aid Popcorn Directions:
Preheat oven to 250.
Divide the popcorn in half and pour each half into a large baking dish or roaster.
In a large pot, add the butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat until the butter is completely melted. Cook for 1 more minute. Add the baking soda and mix well. You will notice the mixture will foam up when you add the baking soda (that’s why a large pot is important).
Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour half of the mixture into another pot. Add one package of Kool-Aid to half the mixture and mix well.
You will now have a thick, foamy coloured mixture. Pour it over one of your baking dishes of popcorn. Stir well coating all of the popcorn with the coloured mixture.
Repeat with other colour.
Place both dishes in the oven. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and pour the popcorn over waxed paper to cool.
Once it has completed cooled break any large pieces apart. Enjoy!

Have you tried making it with the sugar free jello, I am diabetic and love popcorn!
Sorry, I haven’t tried that. Let us know if you do though and how it turns out!
Will this popcorn be sticky or does the oven bake take away the stickiness?
