I used my classic sugar cookie recipe for this batch, but I HIGHLY recommend giving this Pumpkin Toffee roll out recipe from Semi Sweet Mike a try. SO YUMMY!

Make your dough and cut out the desired number of mason jar cookies. Using the bottom of your piping tip, punch a few small circles into the remaining dough to create the spider bodies. Try not to push all the way down, or your dough might get stuck in the piping tip. Bake according to recipe instructions and allow to cool.

Using your black 20 second icing, flood the circles. Immediately press your cookie into the black sanding sugar (if you’ve decided to use the sanding sugar). Let the spider cookie dry while we start the mason jars.

Divide your cookie into thirds and outline and flood the bottom portion in yellow.

Immediately fill in the middle section with orange, and the top section in white.

Gently place your black spider body on top of the mason jar, while the icing is still wet.

I recommend doing one full cookie at a time vs doing all the yellow sections first. This way the icing will dry smooth with no separation between the colors.

Allow the cookies to dry for a few hours before moving on to the next step.

Using your black piping icing, outline the entire cookie and add a few threading ridges to the opening of your mason jar.

Next, add 4 legs to each side of your spider’s body.

Add a web accent in the corner of your cookie. Start by piping 3-4 spokes and then connect with a few rows of curved lines.

Add two white dots for eyes, and immediately pipe on two black pupils. Allow the cookies to dry completely before handling.
