This Butterfly Cake Pops tutorial is courtesy of our contributor Deanna…Can you believe it? The sun is out, the flowers are bright, and the butterflies are about to make a grand entrance. I have always loved Monarch butterflies because they remind me of warm summer days. So I thought this gorgeous simple cake pop would be perfect to kick start summer.
Butterfly Cake Pops – What You’ll Need:
- wax paper
- blank paper
- a pen or pencil
- tape
- chocolate
- orange chocolate
- sandwich bags
- toothpick
- cake pop sticks
- cake pop dough
- sky blue chocolate
Butterfly Cake Pops – Steps:
First I Googled “butterfly outline” and drew a sketch onto my blank piece of paper. I separated the wings just a bit so that when I piped out the chocolate the wings would be two separate pieces.
Next I tossed some milk chocolate and orange chocolate into sandwich bags and melted them in the microwave at half power for about 30 seconds. Yes – you can melt it right in the baggie!
While that was melting I taped a piece of wax paper over the drawings of butterflies.
Snip off the corner of the chocolate and outline the wings.
Then fill in the wings with the orange chocolate.
Moving rather quick take a tooth pick and drag the chocolate into the orange chocolate. If you wait too long the chocolate will start to harden and you won’t get this effect.
While those dried I rolled out my cake pop dough a tad larger than normal. I also made them slightly into an oval shape instead of the typical round cake pop.
I then stuck the cake pop stick in at an angle. I did this so we have more space to add the wings without the stick getting in the way.
Dip the cake pops into the blue chocolate and tap off the extra chocolate. Place stick up onto the wax paper.
Once the cake pops have dried slowly peal the wax paper from the wings and using some chocolate “glue” the wings into place.
For the first wing I put the chocolate onto the underside and held it in place on the cake pop, then i put a dab of chocolate onto the cake pop next to it and place the other wing into it. It only takes a few seconds for it to harden.
Aren’t these cake pops gorgeous? I love how simple they are. Until next time…
