The summer party season isn’t over yet! With a few more weeks until the first day of school here, we’re still soaking up all that summer fun with trips out to the lake, BBQ parties, bike rides and more. With having went from a family of two to a family of six, trips out to the lake this year are much different than last year. Now with three teen boys plus my 7 year old son, there are more boating adventures, more hikes and a lot more food. With so many fun outdoor adventures plus the summer heat, we don’t want to spend a lot of time inside cooking while at the lake. We plan for quick & easy meals that all ages will enjoy. This means lots of burgers and hot dogs plus plenty of snacks. Maple Leaf is a brand I’ve trusted for many years. Not only do I trust the quality of their products but with their new real, simple or natural ingredients, it takes the guess work out of selecting foods for our son with food allergies.
Have you seen the new packaging on some Maple Leaf products? They’re making real food with simple ingredients that you can pronounce. This isn’t to say their food wasn’t safe before – it has always been a quality product made with safe ingredients – but more consumers were asking for real, simple and natural ingredients so Maple Leaf went to work testing various ingredients and recipes so they could deliver on that request without sacrificing the taste of Maple Leaf products that we’ve all come to love. This process started two years ago and back in May I had an opportunity to visit the Maple Leaf office in Ontario to taste some of the foods, tour their facility and participate in a Q&A session with their CEO Michael McCain. It’s clear to see that these changes have been a real priority for them and they weren’t taking any shortcuts when developing these new recipes.
We all have busy schedules so Maple Leaf wants to give us options for quick & easy meals for our families with ingredients we recognize and trust. Have you seen the new single serving packaged hot dogs? Each hot dog is wrapped individually so your child can easily pop one into the microwave for 20 seconds for a quick snack. With Ready Crisp bacon, fully cooked hams and more, there are so many options for quick, easy and healthy family meals.
Being out at the lake, we unplug our devices and play a lot of games. These Spicy Pulled Pork Nachos are so easy to make! Simply start with the Maple Leaf Natural Selections Slow Roasted Shredded Pork, add in some BBQ sauce (as spicy or as mild as you’d like), corn, black beans and cheese – then just pop onto the BBQ for a few minutes and it’s ready to eat!
Spicy Pulled Pork Nachos:
You could even mix the pork with BBQ sauce at home in the frying pan and take it out to the lake in a container so it’s ready to spread over the nachos. Super simple!
- jalapeno nacho chips
- Maple Leaf Natural Selections Slow Roasted Shredded Pork
- BBQ sauce (I use a spicy Chipotle sauce)
- dry ranch seasoning mix
- corn niblets
- black beans (drained and rinsed)
- jalapeno havarti cheese
- Mix the shredded pork with the BBQ sauce in a frying pan over high heat.
- Spread the nacho chips on a cookie sheet or aluminum baking sheet.
- Mix corn and black beans with a tablespoon of dry ranch seasoning mix. Stir well to mix.
- Top nacho chips with corn & bean mixture, shredded pork, and havarti cheese.
- Heat in the oven or over the BBQ until cheese is melted.
Have you tried any of the revised Maple Leaf products? Their research team did a lot of testing and blind taste tests with consumers before finalizing their recipes. They truly wanted to create foods that consumers enjoyed and were comfortable feeding their families. They’d love to hear your feedback!
