Little-Known January Holidays and Family Fun

December 30, 2012 By Cheryl 6 Comments

For most of us, the holiday season is now ending. Many of us head back to work next week and get back into our regular routine. What if you don’t want the holiday season to end? Then I have some great news for you – there are plenty of more reasons to celebrate in January with these little-known January holidays!

Little-Known January Holidays:

January 1st – Tournament of Roses Parade Day: Each year on January 1st (unless it falls on a Sunday), the Tournament of Roses Parade is held. Here are some fun ideas for creating your own mini parade floats and watching the parade at home.

January 4th – Trivia Day: This is a great day to dust off those old board games and play some trivia games as a family.

January 14th – Dress Up Your Pet Day: Do you have any fun pet costumes left from Halloween? Have fun dressing up your pets today – only if they are willing participants though! Sorry Fluffy.

January 18th – Winnie the Pooh Day: What’s Winnie the Pooh’s favorite food? Honey! Celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day by making some delicious treats using honey as a special ingredient.

January 19th – Popcorn Day: This would be a great day to watch a movie at a theatre (with popcorn of course!) or host your own movie party at home with these fun ideas for a movie concession stand.

January 21st – National Hugging Day: Don’t forget to give all of your loved ones a special hug today! Remember the pets too…especially if you dressed them up for National Dress Up Your Pet Day! You can also hide some Hershey’s Hug chocolates in lunch bags and brief cases.

January 24th – National Compliment Day: Never underestimate the power of a sincere compliment. A great family exercise is to have a sheet of paper for each member of the family. Title each with “Compliments for {Name}” and everyone in the family can take turns writing compliments about that person on their sheet of paper. This is a great keepsake!

I used to research special holidays when I made a calendar for our local Kinette club. It was fun seeing all of the bizarre holidays there were.

I work as a radio dj and we get these sort of lists all the time. They seem like someone is sitting in their garage and making them up 🙂
