200 Ideas for Family Fun

Family Fun Ideas - Free Printable

We have such a fun printable to share with you – 200 Family Fun Ideas! This free printable includes 50 family-friendly activity ideas per season along with cute labels for activity jars. You simply print the free printable, cut out the jar labels, tape or glue the labels on jars, cut out the activity ideas (they are all colour-coded by seasons), fold the activity ideas and place them into the jar. You can then have your kids randomly select an activity from the jar each time you’re looking for a family-friendly activity.

I’ve separated them into seasons because some activities are specific to a season. For example, you can’t build a snowman in the summer and you probably can’t have a water balloon fight outside in the winter (unless you live somewhere tropical!). There may be some activity ideas that don’t apply to you and you can just discard those ones. For example, if you live in a warm climate then you won’t be able to do any of the activities that involve snow.

Examples of Family Fun Ideas:

  • go stargazing in your pajamas and bring along snacks and sleeping bags
  • have a scavenger hunt for bugs
  • write a thank you card for someone who recently did something nice for you
  • use your video camera to make silly commercials for products in your pantry
  • make finger puppets out of an old glove
  • write a funny poem together and hang it on your fridge
  • create your own board game with cardboard, markers, small figurines and dice
  • create a scrapbook page about your best trip over the last year

There are 200 family fun ideas to choose from so you’re sure to find plenty to entertain your family. There are also 2 blank squares per season so you can add in your own fun ideas or simply write {Child Name}’s choice and let one of your children choose any activity he’d like to do.

This free printable is available to Moms & Munchkins Monthly Newsletter Subscribers. The newsletter is free and you can sign up here. Each month we’ll update you on what’s planned for Moms & Munchkins along with a fun free printable to enjoy with your family. Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess

Everyone in my home is a big fan of Disney Junior so we were very excited to hear about the premiere of Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess. Sofia the First will make her big debut on Disney Junior on Saturday, November 24th at 7pm ET. Sofia The FirstSofia is a young girl who lives with her mother in the village. Her mother meets King Roland II and it is love at first sight! Sofia’s mother (now Queen Miranda) and King Roland II are married which now makes Sofia a princess! As you can imagine, learning to be a princess is not an easy task. Sofia is not sure that she has what it takes to be a princess but she soon discovers the true meaning of being a princess is more than beautiful gowns and the perfect royal wave. Sofia encounters a few challenges along the way like the jealousy of her new sister and Cedric the sorcerer’s plans to take over the kingdom. It’s a wonderful story about the blending of two families and discovering that your uniqueness is what makes you special.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to watch an advanced screening of Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess with my son. It was a big hit with both of us! I don’t want to give away anything here but I have to tell you two things to watch for in the premiere. The first is my favorite character the witty & funny rabbit Clover, Sofia’s new best friend at the castle. The second is Sofia’s closet – I am so jealous of that closet! Just wait until you see it and you’ll understand why.

There are many ways you can celebrate this premiere as a family. You can also invite your child’s friends over for a prince & princess viewing party. Disney Junior has plenty of ideas to help you plan the perfect princess viewing party.

  • Learn how to waltz with these easy to follow instructions. With a little practice, you’ll be ready to dance at Sofia’s Royal Ball!
  • You can host a tea party for your little princes & princesses with these delicious ideas for tea party sandwiches.
  • During your tea party, engage the little ones in some tea party talk with these fun questions.
  • Your little ones can let their creativity shine with this fun Princess Book with activity sheets for creating their own Princess Crest, a sign up sheet for creating their own Royal Princess Court, and an activity for creating their own Princess story.

Some other fun accessories that you can include in your princess party are:

  • princess tiaras and prince crowns for the guests to wear
  • sugar cookies cut out in tiara shapes with pink icing
  • a craft of creating your own princess jewelry

Disney Junior is also giving you a chance to win one of 150 Sofia the First Book Prize Packs! Tune into the premiere and watch carefully because you’ll  need to  know the answer to a certain question for your chance to win.

Have fun & be sure to come back to let me know what you thought about the big premiere of Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess.

What animal would your child choose to include on her Princess Crest? I’m sure my son would choose a dinosaur for his.

Disclosure:  I’m part of the Disney Junior Mom program and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Winter Family Fun

These winter family fun activities include ideas for both indoor and outdoor fun. With fun family celebrations, winter holidays and these fun activities, there are plenty of ways to celebrate winter! Winter Family Fun

  • Building a Snowman: Be creative with props, build a snowman family of different sizes, maybe even make some pets out of snow (I’m sure your snowman friend would love a snowdog or snowcat friend)
  • Building a Snow Fort: For safety reasons, it may be best to build a snow fort without a roof.
  • Hot Chocolate: Make your own hot chocolate with this delicious recipe. You could top it with whipped cream or mini marshmallows.
  • Baking: It’s never to early to get a head start on baking for the holidays. Your kids could help by decorating cookies.
  • Making Cards: With some paper, markers, stickers and glitter, your kids could help to make some personalized cards for the holidays. With some blank return address labels, you could also create some fun & personalized return address labels for your cards.
  • Tobogganing: My favorite winter family fun activity as a child was going tobogganing on the hills behind our house. Dress warm and enjoy the mini slopes!
  • Cross-Country Skiing: Not only is cross-country skiing great exercise but it’s a lot of fun too! Check your local listings to see if a company in your city rents skis.
  • Skating: Growing up, we had a little outdoor skating rink across the street from our house and we were out there daily. Your city may have both indoor and outdoor skating options available. Many times you can find gently used skates for sale in your local community flyer or online. Be sure that the outdoor rinks and ponds have been cleared for skating before you venture out.
  • Santa Visit: A winter family fun activity that we always enjoy is our annual visit with Santa. This is a great family tradition!
  • Homemade Gifts: People love receiving homemade gifts that kids have made themselves. You may find inspiration at your local craft store.
  • Snow Pictures: With a squeeze bottle filled with water and food colouring, you can create some fun pictures outside in the snow. It’s kind of like the winter version of sidewalk chalk!
  • Decorating: Does your family decorate your home for the holidays? On a day when it’s too cold to go outside, decorating the inside of the house would be a fun activity for the family.
  • Christmas Tree: How early do you put up your Christmas tree? A winter family fun activity that we do every year is decorate the Christmas tree together.
  • Holiday Donations: Do you give back during the holidays? As a family, you can make your plan for how you will give back this holiday season. Here are some ways that we give back.
  • Santa Letters: Has your little one been a good boy or girl all year? Do they have a long list for Santa? A fun activity is writing letters to Santa. Check online for the address to mail these letters to. Sometimes the Santa display at the mall has a mailbox that you can put these letters into.
  • Hide & Seek: A fun game to enjoy the outdoors is a hide & seek game in the snow. Using a medium sized toy like a ball, hide the toy in the snow and let the other players try to find it.
  • Horse Carriage Ride: Check your local listings for a company that does winter sled rides with horses (or maybe a dog sled!).
  • Snow Angels: Lay in the snow and make snow angels.
  • Next Year’s Goals: Do you make New Year’s resolutions or goals? Sitting down together and thinking of fun ideas for the upcoming year is a fun way to enjoy some family time while planning for more!

Family Game Night Ideas – Bringing Board Games to Life

You’re sure to get a lot of laughter with these silly family game night ideas. These ideas are inspired from traditional games you’re likely familiar with. My husband gave me a strange look when I told him about my Velcro patch idea…more on that one in just a moment!

Human Tic-Tac-Toe: You’ll need 2 groups of at least 3 people for this game. Create a tic-tac-toe playing board on the ground using painters tape (it removes easily without leaving a sticky residue). Each team takes a turn having one player stand in a square of the playing board. As team members choose a square, they must hold the hand of their other team member – this helps to see when a tic-tac-toe winning line is forming. The goal of tic-tac-toe is to create a winning line of 3 team members in a row. family-game-night-ideas-tic

Hungry Hippos: This is an easy game to set up. For this game you’ll need plenty of balloons and either 2 small hockey nets or two laundry baskets. Players will compete against each other to quickly get more balloons in their net than the other player. Family Game Night Ideas - Hippo

Clue Mystery Game: Check out this mystery party post to find easy ways to set up secret clues around your home like glow in the dark messages, secret clues requiring the use of a magnifying glass and more.

Barrel of Monkeys: When I first told me husband about this game, he gave me a strange look but I promised him it would be fun. What you’ll need for this game is a plain t-shirt, some sticky Velcro pads, and some small/light stuffed animals. Place some sticky Velcro pads on various areas of the shirt then place the other portion of the Velcro pads on some stuffed animals. The goal of this game is to roll around the ground to try to stick as many stuffed animals to the Velcro pads on the shirt as possible – without using your hands. It was inspired by the Barrel of Monkeys game…but I guess it’s quite different than the actual game. Oh well, it was still funny watching my husband roll around the ground trying to attach stuffed animals to his shirt. Family Game NIght Ideas - Velcro
