Moms’ Night Out with June Bizarre Holidays

There are so many reasons to celebrate in June. The official start to the summer season is in June. Kids get out of school for summer vacation in June. My birthday falls in June…so many reasons to throw a great party! Here are some little-known June bizarre holidays that give you a great reason to gather your best girlfriends for a moms’ night out celebration!

June Bizarre Holidays

June Bizarre Holidays:

June 1st – National Go Barefoot Day: Flip flop season is now upon us. Get those toes and feet ready by enjoying a barefoot afternoon at the spa with your best girlfriends while indulging in pedicures.

June 3rd – National Leave the Office Early Day: Now that I work from home, it’s not so easy to “leave the office”. If you are a stay-at-home mom as well, perhaps you could turn this into a National Leave the Office Early Day for your husband so you can go out and enjoy some iced tea and appetizers on a patio with friends.

June 6th – Drive-In Movie Day: Our city doesn’t have a drive-in movie theatre but it does have a portable outdoor theatre that comes out a few times a year. If you have something like this in your city, gather your best girlfriends up and go out to a drive-in movie together. Don’t forget to wear your cozy pj’s and bring lots of snacks!

June 7th – VCR Day: Do you or any of your friends still own a VCR and some videos? Today would be a great day to take out some of those old videos and have a movie party at home with a buffet of delicious snacks.

June 10th – Iced Tea Day: Iced Tea Day would be the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon on a patio with friends enjoying iced tea, appetizers and great company.

June 16th – Fudge Day: I love any holiday that involves sweets! Do you have a great fudge recipe? Today would be a great day to enjoy a fudge bake exchange and taste-testing! Here’s one of my favorite fudge recipes.

June 21st – National Flip Flop Day (always the 3rd Friday in June): You’re going to be glad that you indulged in a pedicure for National Barefoot Day because now you’ll be ready to celebrate National Flip Flop Day! Perhaps you could go shoe shopping with your best girlfriends or indulge in a pedicure if you haven’t already done so this month.

June 25th – Please Take My Children To Work Today (always the last Monday in June): I suppose this day is to help parents ease the transition from having the kids in school all day to having them home with you all day. If your spouse can’t take the kids into work for the day, perhaps you can plan for an evening out after he’s home from work. One last night out before the craziness of summer vacation begins.

Which of these June bizarre holidays are you most excited to celebrate? Do you know of any other June bizarre holidays worth celebrating?

Movie Theatre Day (April 23rd): What is the last movie you saw in the theatre? If you can’t remember, it probably means you are due for a night out with your girlfriends.

National Dance Day (April 29th): I honestly can’t remember the last time I went out dancing. It was probably 10+ years ago! Although spending your night at a club may no longer be your scene, you could celebrate National Dance Day by taking a fun dance cardio class together.

Family Fun Ideas with February Bizarre Holidays

I absolutely love all of the random holidays there are out there. Some are really sweet, others a little odd, but there are so many fun ways to celebrate in February these February bizarre holidays.

February 2 – Crepe Day: I love crepes! My mom used to have a Christmas tradition of cod fish on toast for Christmas breakfast (yes, it was as terrible as it sounds!) and I’ve since convinced her to change our Christmas breakfast tradition to crepes. Here is a delicious recipe for basic crepes that you can dress up with any kind of fruit topping you’d like.

February 2 – Take Your Child to the Library Day: Today would be the perfect day to take your little ones to the library and play a fun scavenger hunt game. Here’s a library scavenger hunt game that you can print for free.

February 27 – National Pink Shirt Day: This special day really isn’t one of the February bizarre holidays but it is a great one to celebrate with your kids. On February 27th, people are encouraged to wear a pink shirt to show their support for anti-bullying initiatives. This is the perfect day to talk to your kids about bullying, what bullying means, how to deal with bullying and ways to help others that they see being bullied.

February 28 – National Chili Day: Nothing beats the cold winter weather like a hot bowl of delicious chili. A fun activity to enjoy as a family would be to have a chili cook-off! You can split your family into two teams that each create their own pot of chili and then have a silly game of rating them.

Valentine’s Day Party for Kids

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - BaitValentine’s Day is quickly approaching! How do you celebrate this fun holiday with your family? Do you plan a family date night? Leave a heart-shaped box of chocolates on your child’s pillow? Leave little love notes around the house? Or do you plan a fun family party? These fun Valentine’s Day party for kids ideas all revolve around a fun fish theme.

oFISHal Valentine’s Day Party for Kids:

Setting up this party is so easy with these printable party supplies from Just a Little Sparkle and some accessories that you can find at your local grocery store and dollar store.

A red or blue tablecloth would work for this party theme. A fun addition would be red and blue paper lanterns above the table. You could also create red or blue tissue pouf balls (here’s a tutorial) for additional table decor.

For this party, I did a candy and snack buffet. There are so many fun fish-themed ideas! Here are a few ideas I used in the party plus a few extras that would be a delicious addition.

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Snacks

Fish & Chips: Goldfish crackers and potato chips in fish bowls are tasty snacks that most kids enjoy. Actually, after I was done with my party pictures, my husband sat on the couch with the two fish bowls to eat the snacks during the football game. See…a perfect snack food for all ages! If you are looking for more of a  meal than a snack, you could also serve fried fish sticks with french fries.

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Taffy

Salt Water Taffy: These candies can be placed inside a large candy vase.

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Drink

Seawater: Bottles of blue pop could be labeled as “seawater”. I wasn’t able to find blue pop so I used root beer – that’s why my seawater looks more like swamp water!

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Cupcakes

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Toppers

Cupcakes: A party just wouldn’t be a party without icing! Here are some cute ideas for cupcake toppers with phrases like “oFISHally my Valentine” and “I’m Hooked”.

Every party needs a fun game and a Valentine’s Day party for kids is no exception. What better idea for a fish-themed party than a fishing game! You can find all of the supplies you need for this game at your local dollar store. Simply purchase plastic heart containers, a magnet sticker sheet, a magnetic toy fishing rod and some Valentine’s candy. You can place a small strip of magnet on each plastic heart filled with candy. Kids then have to use the magnetic fishing rod to catch themselves a Valentine’s Day treat!

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Game

It’s always nice to send guests home with a party favor to thank them for celebrating with you. Here are some fun Valentine’s Day party for kids favor ideas for this fun fish theme.

Valentine's Day Party for Kids - Favor

Small metal pails can be used for fish gummies along with a “You’re a Great Catch” or “I’m Hooked” favor tags. A fun alternative is to use gummy worms with an “oFISHal Valentine Bait” tag (see the first picture in this post for an example).

An alternative to gummy fish is to use Goldfish Crackers. There are so many different flavors of Goldfish Crackers that you can mix and match some of the different types. Funny story – I purchased a box of Goldfish Crackers this weekend that said “Giant” on it. I thought it meant it was a giant box as opposed to the smaller bags of crackers for sale. When I opened the box at home I realized that the fish themselves are giant, not just the box! So, you could mix some small crackers in with the giant ones.

Fun wording for the favor bag toppers includes “Even with all the fish in the sea, I’m so happy you’re mine” and “Let’s make it oFISHal! Will you be my Valentine?”.
