Text Abbreviations Game

Please tell me that someone else can relate to this: In high school you think you’re pretty hip (okay, the fact that I just used the word “hip” pretty much tells you that I was anything but cool in high school) because you know about all the coolest lingo, the latest in celebrity gossip and where to buy the most AH-mazing clothes. Fast forward what seems like only a few years and you’re in your mid-thirties, not caring if your hair is done before going to the grocery store and when you hear teenagers talk it’s like listening to a foreign language. Can you relate? Phew! Glad to know I’m not the only one! If you’re looking for a fun game to play with your teens, I have the perfect game for you…Text Abbreviations Game! I’ll warn you now though, your teens will likely win this game.

Text Abbreviations Game

Playing the game is simple! Print the free text abbreviations game flashcards. Each sheet has two sides so make sure you print them together (page 1 is the front and page 2 is the back then page 3 is the front and page 4 is the back, etc.) so the term page is on the front and the answer page is on the back of the sheet. Then cut out the cards along the dotted lines. I’ve also left a few blank cards for your teens to write down some abbreviation questions and answers to try to trick you.

Simply hold the large bolded side towards the other player(s) with the italicized answer side facing you. See how many answers the players can get right within 10 seconds. Why only 10 seconds per round? The short time frame may get the players a bit flustered and that’s when the funny answers start coming out!

Text Abbreviations Game – Practice Round!

Okay, let’s see how hip you really are. Here are a few text abbreviations – do you know what they stand for? You’ll have to look at the free printable game for the answers. In the comment section below, let me know how good (or bad) you did!

Christmas Relay Game

Do you love playing in the snow? If so, you’ll want to try this fun Christmas Relay Game with your family! Be sure to dress warm and you may want to wear ski pants to stay dry.

This relay game is fun with a large group of people. It’s a great game to play when all of your company is over on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. You can easily set these games up in your own backyard or at a local park. I’ve also included the game on a free printable so that you can bring it along with you.

Split your group into small teams of 3 – 5 people. Each team will work together to complete the challenges listed below. The first team to successfully complete all of the challenges must run through the finish line first. You can create a festive finish line with Christmas garland between 2 shovels stuck in the snow. You’ll want to assign at least one player (who is not assigned to a team) to be a referee.

You’ll need a few supplies for this game. Your local dollar store would be a great place to shop for inexpensive game supplies.

Christmas Relay Game – Challenges:

Build a Snowman: Each team can be given a small bucket of supplies to build their own snowman. This bucket could include items such as a scarf, a carrot nose, black coal or rocks, a hat and a measuring tape. Upon the referee ringing the starting bell, teams must work together to build a snowman of a specified height. When they think they are done the challenge, they have to call over the referee to measure the height of the snowman and get approval to move onto the next challenge in the Christmas Relay Game.

Snow Angels: Teams must choose 1 person to complete this challenge. One team member from each team must successfully make 5 snow angels in the snow before moving onto the next challenge.

Write a Message to Santa in the Snow: Using a squirt bottle filled with water and food colouring, teams must write a special message to Santa in the snow. On the free printable Christmas Relay Game, you can write down what message you would like the teams to leave for Santa.

Sled Jump: Team members must use snow to build a ramp (of a specified height) and then pull one team member over the ramp on a small sleigh. The team member on the sleigh must not fall off the sled during the jump.

Snow Ball Fight: Team members must knock down plastic bottles partly filled with water (to give the bottles a little bit of weight). The team must knock over 5 bottles before moving onto the next Christmas Relay Game challenge.

Find the Buried Treasure: Team members must dig through the snow to find a missing treasure. You could hide small plastic Christmas ornaments in the snow for team members to find. Make sure you have at least 1 ornament per team hidden.

Which Christmas Relay Game challenge do you think you’d do the best at? What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Christmas Dress Up Game

Christmas Dress Up Game PrintableThis Christmas Dress Up Game is a silly game perfect for kids and adults of all ages. This one is sure to create a lot of laughter and it’s one that you’ll want to have your camera ready for.

Basically, you’ll have a list of Christmas-related items that you’ll have to dress up a team member to resemble. For example, if you choose a “snowman” you could wrap your teammate in toilet paper and tape on some eyes & buttons cut out of black construction paper. I’ll provide a free printable list of dress up ideas below.

For this Christmas Dress Up Game, you’ll need to set out some supplies in a separate room. These are the supplies that teams will use in order to create their Christmas-related character. Some great ideas for props are:

  • various colours of tissue paper
  • various colours of streamer paper
  • balloons
  • strong tape
  • pipe cleaners
  • construction paper
  • scissors
  • head band
  • empty rolls from paper towels or wrapping paper
  • string
  • old wire hangers

Christmas Dress Up Game – Instructions:

You’ll want to split your party into 2 separate teams. Each team should have at least 3 players. Team A chooses 1 person as the “model” and at least 1 person as the “creator” (you can have more than 1 “creator” if you have large teams). Team A’s “creator” randomly draws one sheet of paper from the bucket of dress up options (click here for the free printable).

Team A’s “model” and “creator” go into the separate dressing room and have 2 minutes to dress up the “model” to resemble the Christmas-related item they chose (for example, a snowman). They can use any of the props found in the dress up room.

When 2 minutes has passed, the team must come back into the playing area and their team gets 1 minute to guess what the “model” is dressed up as. Neither the model or the creator can talk or act out what the “model” is supposed to be. The model can hold a pose, just not act out the item like they would in a game of charades.

If Team A gets it right, Team A wins one point. If Team A doesn’t guess correctly within one minute, Team B gets one chance at guessing the correct answer. If Team B guesses correctly, Team B gets one point.
